In 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruled to grant non-commercial organizations with licenses to operate Low Power FM radio stations. In 2001 the Brick Radio Collective applied for an FCC permit to create a community radio station in Louisville. Brick Radio was joining community-based organizations all around the country who saw the value of creating non-commercial micropower radio stations in their communities.
In early 2005 Brick Radio received news that the FCC had granted the LPFM license and soon after reserved the call letters WXBH. Through their diligence and hard work, WXBH members have organized the station, negotiated a time and facility sharing agreement with WFHS, Fern Creek High School’s LPFM station (both on 92.7fm), raised funds, acquired recording equipment, and are now conducting training sessions to prepare community members to produce and broadcast shows.
